For a brief, beautiful moment, many of us believe 2024 was going to be the “year of the tunnel.” There were just so many great, tunnel-related news stories at the beginning of the year, from Brooklyn’s secret synagogue tunnel, to the Brazilian guy who dug a hole in his kitchen looking for gold, to the caves that homeless people appeared to construct in California.

Unfortunately, by the time March of 2024 rolled around, stories about tunnels slowed to a trickle. However, one tunnel story stuck with us: the Virginia woman who illegally built a tunnel under her house.

Now, there’s an exciting update to the story. The tunnel work is continuing, only this time, it’s happening legally. Why is she doing it? Well, it seems to be more of a “why not”-style situation. Anyway, she can begin working again soon, so it’s not long until we find out what the hell she plans on doing with it!
